Lindsay Fico

Head Coach

Having already enjoyed an enormity of success at each stop of her 11-year coaching career, Lindsay Fico was named the seventh head coach in the 39-year history of the Mercer softball program on June 30, 2021.

Fico ventured to Middle Georgia from Gainesville, Fla., where she helped lead the Santa Fe College program to 70 wins in three seasons, including a pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign. She also has a previous stint as a high-level coach with the Santa Fe Inferno travel ball organization.

The energetic mentor displayed a multitude of success as the skipper for the program at Santa Fe, leading the Saints on a 10-game turnaround in just three seasons, including a 31-win campaign in 2021 that culminated with a Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship and SFC’s first trip to the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) state tournament in four years.  Santa Fe was dominant at home during Fico’s final season with the club, registering a 20-1 record in Gainesville while holding opponents to a paltry 2.9 runs per game on their home field.

Student-athletes at both Santa Fe and Mercer have enjoyed a bevy of achievements under Fico’s watch. Her teams have combined to rake in 14 all-conference accolades over the last five seasons, including eight across two years in Macon, while three others have gone on to garner all-state or all-region crowns. The stories of classroom success have been plentiful as well. In addition to a handful of banner semesters in the classroom with regards to cumulative team grade point average metrics, Fico’s squads have also raked in 10 region academic honors, including a pair as coach of the Orange & Black.

A teacher of the game first and foremost, Fico began her coaching career with the Santa Fe Inferno organization, a regionally-renowned travel ball organization in central Florida. Her love of coaching was sparked by the teaching of individual lessons leading up to and during her collegiate playing career.

The former Lindsay Norfleet played four seasons (2003-06) at Florida where she made her mark primarily in the infield for head coach Tim Walton. The Madison, Fla., native saw action in 206 games across her collegiate career, and helped the Gators rack up more than 165 wins, as well as four appearances in the NCAA postseason.

Fico earned her degree in public relations from Florida in 2006. She married her high school sweetheart, Damon, in 2007, and the couple has one son, Damon Jr. (D.C.).
